Whether you already incorporate khakis and cargos into your regular clothing rotation or are looking to take the plunge, this entry is aimed to educate and eradicate all negative and overly formal notions that these styles might hold in your mind. Both options give a nice daytime casual that can be paired well with a long sleeve shirt, polo shirt, sweater or sport coat. Take note of the following information when making these styles all your own.
- Slim and straight is how it should be: You want a nice form-fitting cut to show off the shape of your lower body. Don’t go too tight in the fit because remember comfort is as equally important as the fit.
- Think about the construction of the pants: Cargos of the past were baggy with large pockets situated on the sides of the legs, giving the wearer a baggy and wide appearance. The placement of the cargo pockets makes all the difference in making sure you don’t lose the slim silhouette. Go for a pair with smaller pockets on the front of the pants. Be sure not to load too much stuff into the pockets to avoid appearing bulky.
- The length is all up to you: Short, cropped, ankle-length pants are not a fashion faux-pas, in fact it’s all about how to wear it. A short pant puts more focus on your footwear and ankles. Of course you can’t go wrong with a khaki or cargo style pant that hits the shoe in just the right place. Also, with these types of pants rolling up the cuff is totally acceptable to achieve the exact length that you desire.
- Get creative with the details: Zip pockets, snap pockets, button pockets, and the angle of the pockets. It’s the little details that are going to set you apart and get you noticed.
