MANOLO BLAHNIK

For over four decades, Manolo Blahnik has made desirable inimitable women’s foorwear. Born in 1942 to a Czech father and a Spanish mother and raised in the Canary Isalands (Spain), Blahnik left to Paris to study art after studying architecture in the University of Geneva in 1965. In 1968, he moved to London, where he began working at Zapata fashion boutique for designing men’s shoes. In 1970, Diana Vreeland, the editor in Chief of American Vouge encouraged him to pursue only shoe design. Described as the high priest of the high heel, Manolo Blahnik has become one of the most covet-worthy shoemakers for every feminine thanks to his elegant designs, comfort and quality craftsmanship.

In 1970s, when mainstream shoe styling was still dominated by chunky platform shoes and boots, Manolo Blahnik revived the stiletto heel, which has since become a classic for the brand. Intrecciato, Italian for woven, is a technique utilized by the luxury brand since its rise in the 1960s. Everything from oversized women’s handbags to trim men’s belts is constructed in this meticulous technique, intended to provide durability and strength beyond an attractive aesthetic.
