Sui GENERIS Debuts High-End Women’s Boutique on Market Street in Their Former Menswear Location

Driven By Customer Demand, the Women’s Store Builds on the Legacy of Sui GENERIS Men’s With Second-Hand Designer and New Luxury Items, Including Accessories and 2011 Collections

San Francisco – February 11, 2011
– Sui GENERIS today announced that February 19, 2011 will mark the soft opening of its first women’s boutique at 2265 Market Street, in the location that formerly housed the Sui GENERIS menswear store. Sui GENERIS Men’s moved, just down the block, to a larger storefront at 2231 Market Street. (link to separate release)

The highly anticipated women’s boutique responds to often-repeated customer demand for a wider selection and focus on womenswear.  Quality designer pieces from 2011 collections, previously owned high-end fashion for women, and accessories are already pouring in. In addition to new and second-hand luxury garments, accessories are a major focus. Cashmere and silk scarves, wallets, belts, high heels, boots, and designer handbags for day and evening will be in the mix at the women’s boutique.  A glimpse of consigned offerings for sale right now include leather thigh high boots from Alexander McQueen and a vintage Versace black velvet coat from the 1990s, perfect for skinny jeans and stilettos.  For a full list of items being sold and accepted, click here.

Sui GENERIS for women will also include new collections from up-and-coming fashion designers.  Customers will be able to discover unique pieces from: Julia y Renata Franco, top designers in Mexico consistently featured in Mexico City’s Mercedes-Benz Fashion Week for the past 10 years; Sergio DAVILA, a 2002 Academy of Art graduate and rising designer who will show his Fall/Winter 2011/12 collection at Mercedes-Benz Fashion Week in Damrosch Park at Lincoln Center on February 15; and Andrew Wedge, another Academy of Art graduate currently interning at Oscar de la Renta and simultaneously designing his own line.

For the interior, Richard Westbrook was consulted. The men’s darker baroque style will be softened with a feminine edge, providing the perfect backdrop for merchandise on display to dominate the foreground, while the walls and ceiling slip away.

“While visiting our store with their male friends, our female clientele understood that Sui GENERIS’ vision for high-end consignment would translate well for women,” said Miguel Lopez, co-owner, Sui GENERIS. “This demand over the years, combined with my experience as a womenswear-focused sales consultant for MaxMara and Ralph Lauren, made us realize we had everything we needed to successfully extend our brand to a women’s boutique.  We are thrilled to begin discovering and delivering the new and hidden fashion finds for women in San Francisco.”

Sui GENERIS Opens New Men’s Store on Market Street, Doubles Their Size

Moving to 2231 Market Street Allows Expanded Selection of Second-Hand and New Designer Consignment; Addition of a Women’s Boutique and Furniture

San Francisco – February 11, 2011
– Sui GENERIS today announced that February 12, 2011 will mark the grand opening of its new men’s store at 2231 Market Street, moving just down the block from its previous location in the heart of the Castro.  The former location at 2265 Market Street will become a new Sui GENERIS boutique devoted solely to women (link to separate release, will need this once it’s posted to the site.)

Sui GENERIS offers a unique shopping experience with quality designer consignment and vintage, as well as new fashion. Through their strong relationships with renowned designers, fashion sales associates, clients, and consigners in downtown San Francisco’s Union Square shopping district they continually acquire excellent second-hand designer fashion and accessories. To learn more about the consignment process, click here.

The 1600 square foot store nearly doubles the size and selection of menswear, and also includes a new formalwear section and a private consigners area.  The idea is to spread out the merchandise they already have on the floor, showcase some of the great pieces between the racks, and comfortably add a few hundred more pieces.

Sui GENERIS is also expanding into the home, with the introduction of consigned furniture provided by Robollo Home.  Hand-selected pieces will reflect Sui GENERIS style and its client’s tastes, allowing customers to extend their unique style from their closet into their living space.

The new store’s interior design will continue to mirror the current baroque style that Sui GENERIS is known for.  Building on the grey and black palette allows the clothes to dominate the space and the walls to recede. With the help of interior designer Richard Westbrook, the space has been optimized for visual and merchandising impact. Even more unique pieces will be on display with the additional merchandising space, benefiting clients and customers alike.

“We are incredibly excited to expand Sui GENERIS, while also keeping our roots deeply planted within the Castro and on Market Street,” said Gabriel Yanez, co-owner, Sui GENERIS.  “It’s thrilling to finally showcase more of the great fashion that just wouldn’t fit on the racks, and offer an even wider array of new fashion and the quality, hard-to-find consignment and vintage that makes our store renowned in San Francisco.”
