Sui GENERIS is a Latin expression meaning “of its own kind” or “unique”.

Owners Miguel and Gabriel have spent their entire life around clothes, and they have hands-on entrepreneurial experience in retail sales and merchandising going back to 1994.
Miguel and Gabriel a graduated Industrial Engineer and a Photographer respectively, they share a passion for fashion and style and after few months of knowing each other they started buying and selling garments in Mexico in 1994. They opened their first store in 1995, and they opened a second location in 1997, running a very successful line of clothes and a Boutique for 4 years called IRALA MODA located in Guadalajara, Mexico where they created a style of their own. Their Boutique was frequently visited for local and national friends and celebrities like Mexican top Designers Julia and Renata Franco as well as rock band members from MANA and Azul Violeta and singers like Alejandra Guzman and Eli Guerra …they were some of the many clientele they had.
After moving to the U.S in 2000., Miguel began working at Max Mara, earn his way up from back-stock position to sales floor and then got recruited by Ralph Lauren in 2002 where he still is a Senior Sales Professional at Ralph Lauren’s downtown San Francisco store and has gained additional valuable expertise in sales and merchandising of high-end designer fashion.
Meanwhile Gabriel was focusing on buying and selling vintage and second hand men’s designer fashion for a few years, becoming an expert in vintage garments until they decided to start a business of their own again.
Sui GENERIS opened their first location Sui GENERIS Vintage at 218 Church Street in 2006 now closed since the end of December 2008, and they opened Sui GENERIS Consignment at 2265 Market Street in February, 2008 a year after they decided to downsize to just one location and expand the selling floor 280 sq feet more to service their clients, having the Designer Consignment and Vintage collection all together in one place.
Sui GENERIS has a strong relationships with other high-end designer, fashion salesmen, clients, and consigners in downtown San Francisco’s fashionable Union Square shopping district and through these relationships they are able to continually acquire new and second-hand designer fashion and accessories that are in excellent condition.
